Presented at the Annual APICS Student Conferences
Approved February 2000The
APICS Undergraduate Science Communication Award will be offered at
each of the annual APICS-sponsored student conferences. The $100
prize will be awarded to the student who is best able to communicate
a science topic to the general public.
The award may be split into two
prizes of $50 each (one for an oral and one for a poster
presentation) at the discretion of the judging committee.
Submission
The entry may be in the form of a
press release, video, web page, oral or poster presentation. A
written summary of the work (not more than one page) may be provided
to the judges and should be written for a general, non-technical
audience.
Judging
Each disciplinary APICS Committee
determines the judging committee membership. Some committees involve
students, some have a ballot vote of all conference attendees, some
involve a member of the APICS Science Education Committee, and some
are comprised of professors in the discipline.
The judging committee has the right
to decide not to give an award in any competition. If there are
fewer than three students eligible to compete for this award at any
conference, the award may not be disbursed.
The decision of the judges is
final.
The Award
Cash prizes can be presented directly to the winners
(using conference funds); APICS will reimburse the committee.
If APICS is given sufficient advance notice (e.g. the two months advance notice
required for a committee to access its conference budget from APICS), APICS can
provide the amount in advance.
Sponsor
This award is sponsored by the
APICS Science Education Committee.
