Welcome to the home page of the Chemistry Committee of the Atlantic Provinces Council on the Sciences.
The Chemistry Sub-Committee was established at the inaugural meeting of APICS in 1962. The
Committee began sponsoring and organizing annual visiting lecture tours and shared the costs
of bringing speakers to symposia.
During its first 25 years, the Chemistry Committee was successful in raising the standards of instruction
in chemistry in the Atlantic Region's public school system, and instrumental in ushering in an era of
transferable university credits.
One of the Committee's major functions is in organizing student conferences. The successful student
conference, the APICS / CIC ChemCon, was initially held every second year until 1985, when its soaring
popularity justified holding them annually.
With the help of the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC), the APICS Chemistry Committee continues
to promote the exchange of information between chemists in the Atlantic Universities through the
organization of lecture tours, and student conferences.
I welcome you to explore this website, and to check back for updates. Any comments or questions you might have would be appreciated!
Regards,
Amitabh Jha
