Welcome to the home page of the Physics & Astronomy Committee of the Atlantic Provinces Council on the Sciences.
The Physics Committee was established at the inaugural meeting of APICS in 1962.
Members immediately prepared an outline of a possible core program common in the region, with aspects of its recommendations being implemented throughout Atlantic Canada.
In the mid 90's 'Astronomy' was added to the committee's name in response to the steadily growing interest in the sub-field.
One of the Committee's major functions is in organizing student conferences.
The student conference, the APICS Undergraduate Physics and Astronomy Conference, has been held with great success each year since 1982.
The committee has also been very active organizing lecture tours throughout the Atlantic provinces.
